Greetings, Coastal Friends!
Get ready to dust off those beach chairs and don your favorite shades because the 13th annual Barefoot Mardi Gras parade is rolling into North Padre Island. Barefoot Mardi Gras started as a grassroots effort to bring a touch of the Big Easy to our coastal paradise. Over the years, it has evolved into a beloved tradition that not only entertains but also makes a meaningful impact on the community.
Sandy shores, coastal breezes, and bursts of vibrant colors as floats adorned with Mardi Gras flair roll down the beach creating an unforgettable experience. Join the festivities as more than 80 floats take the scenic route from Whitecap Beach to Padre Balli Park, transforming the sandy shores into a lively parade route. Last year’s event was a true coastal spectacle, with floats spreading the Mardi Gras cheer by tossing out everything from koozies and beads to candies and other delightful goodies.
While attending and reveling in the event is free of charge, it’s crucial to be aware that participating floats incur a fee. The entirety of these fees is dedicated to supporting vital coastal organizations. The proceeds contribute to the Island Foundation Seashore Schools, enriching educational prospects for the youth along the coast. Additionally, the funds aid the Texas Sealife Center in persisting with its commendable mission of marine life conservation and rehabilitation.
As a spectator, all you need to do is find your perfect spot along the parade route, stretch out your arms, and get ready to catch the colorful beads cascading through the air. It’s a time-honored tradition of making a meaningful contribution to the community we love.
